Poshmark: How Does Selling Work?
Poshmark has been around for quite a while now but it’s is still pretty new to a lot of people. Many frustrated eBay sellers have switched over to Poshmark and found success.
So how does selling on Poshmark work? It’s very simple and similar to eBay in that you take your pictures, describe the item, and list it for sale. When an item is sold, you are provided with a prepaid shipping label to ship the item. When the buyer receives the item, they have three days to accept it so that your money is deposited to you.
That was a very quick answer for how selling on Poshmark works. Here is more information for getting started on Poshmark.

How to List Items on Poshmark
First, you need to make sure that you’re listing an approved item on Poshmark. That’s right, you can’t just sell anything. Poshmark is an online marketplace for men’s, women’s, and kids clothing and accessories. Sellers are prohibited from selling any items outside of that category. In fact, people who repeatedly list items outside this category risk permanent suspension from Poshmark.
Thankfully, Poshmark makes it very easy for sellers to get their items listed on the marketplace. Here are the super easy steps to getting started:
Get the Poshmark app. Visit the App Store on iOS or the Play Store on Android and download the Poshmark app. Set up an account by logging in with Google or Facebook if you don’t already have a Poshmark account.
Find some clothes to sell. Dig in the back of your closet or visit a few thrift stores to find clothing items that you can sell on Poshmark.
Use the app to create your listing. Take a few pictures, add fun filters if you want, fill out the details (brand, size, color, etc), and set a reasonable price.
Share your item on social media and in parties. You can easily connect your Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, or Tumblr to share your items when they are listed. You can also share your item to open parties within the Poshmark app.

How to Ship on Poshmark
I love how easy Poshmark makes shipping. Instead of weighing your items, figuring out what the cheapest shipping method is, and then making sure you charge the customer enough so shipping doesn’t put you in the hole, Poshmark takes care of shipping for you!
The seller on Poshmark does NOT pay for shipping. The seller simply sets the price they want for the item on the app. When the buyer purchases the item, Poshmark charges them an additional $6.79 for shipping. Poshmark then sends the seller a prepaid shipping label to print and put on their package.
The only time you’ll need to pay for shipping is if you go over 5 pounds in package weight. You’ll then be charged a shipping label upgrade fee.
You must ship your clothing items via USPS Priority Mail, which is super nice because you can order free priority mail shipping boxes and envelopes directly from USPS. In fact, most items will fit in Padded Flat Rate Envelopes so there is no need to have a wide range of box sizes on hand.
How Does Poshmark Pay You?
Unlike eBay, the money from your Poshmark sale does not go directly to your account.
Once the sale is complete and the item has been shipping. The buyer has three days from the time the item was delivered to “Accept” the order. At this time, anything that they don’t like or wasn’t received as described can be disputed.
Once the order has been accepted by the buyer, the funds are released to the seller. At this time the sale is final and no refunds will be provided. If the buyer does not accept the item in 3 days, the funds will automatically be released and no refunds will be provided after that time.
When you’re ready to withdraw your earnings from your Poshmark account, you can request the funds to be sent via direct deposit or by check.
Poshmark Seller Protection
Unfortunately, dealing with scammers and irresponsible buyers is something you’ll have to deal with no matter what platform you sell on. However, how each platform deals with these issues is what sets them apart.
When you make a sale, Poshmark immediately retrieves funds from the buyer and holds on to that money until the item is delivered and accepted by the buyer. The buyer then has 3 days from the time of delivery (as indicated by the USPS tracking number) to accept the item or open a case against it.
Unfortunately, some buyers simply forget to “accept” the order and if this should happen, Poshmark will automatically release the funds to you after the 3-day period.
If something happens to your package after it’s dropped off at the post office (it gets lost or is damaged) you will still get paid and Poshmark will take care of claiming a refund from USPS.
If someone tries to buy an item from you but their credit card is automatically declined, Poshmark is unable to collect the funds immediately and will not send you the shipping label. This protects sellers from accidentally shipping something that hasn’t been paid for. Poshmark will let the buyer know that the purchase was not paid for or you can leave a comment for you buyer explaining that the sale didn’t go through.
How to Get Followers on Poshmark
The more followers you have for your Poshmark Closet, the more people you’ll have seeing your items in their shopping feeds.
If you’re not continually gaining new followers, then it will just be the same people who see your items every day and you’re limiting your audience. Chances are if your current followers have seen your items a few times and haven’t liked the listing or purchased it yet, they probably won’t in the future.
This is where the importance of getting new followers on Poshmark comes in. Here a few tips:
Share other people’s items! Find other Poshers who have way more followers than you do. Share a whole bunch of their items to your followers and in return, they’ll likely share a bunch of your items to their followers. Now their followers will see your items and you’ll gain exposure to more people who aren’t following you yet.
Go to all the parties! Share a few things from your closet every 15 minutes to spread out your listings through the feed during the party. Also, share someone’s else’s listing to your followers.
Make friends with other sellers. Follow Poshers that have closets you like. Start chatting with other sellers by congratulating Poshers on being a co-host for an upcoming party or some other noteworthy thing. This boosts the probability of that co-host checking out your closet for host picks. Getting a host pick is huge to your following. Your item will be posted in a featured feed at the party which gives a lot more exposure than just sharing your item in the main feed.
