Does the Seller Pay for Shipping on Poshmark?

When seller’s list an item on Poshmark, there is no area for them to fill out shipping information so it can be confusing to understand who pays for shipping.

So, does the seller pay for shipping on Poshmark? The seller on Poshmark does NOT pay for shipping. The seller simply sets the price they want for the item on the app. When the buyer purchases the item, Poshmark charges them an additional $6.79 for shipping. Poshmark then sends the seller a prepaid shipping label to print and put on their package.

This makes things a whole lot more simple for sellers to list and ship their items. All items are shipped via USPS Priority Mail. They simply need to put the sold item in a box, put the prepaid label on, and give it to the post office.

How Does Poshmark Shipping Work?

Here is how shipping works on Poshmark. If you’re worried about it, don’t be. It is so easy and probably one the the easiest I’ve seen for online marketplaces.

The buyer purchases your item. Remember when you price your item that your buyers will be paying about $7.00 more than what you list it for. Keep that in mind so that buyers don’t hesitate about buying because the price is too high with shipping tacked on. When they purchased your item, the additional $6.79 is paid directly to Poshmark and you receive the sale price (minus fees).

Poshmark sends your prepaid shipping label. You will receive an email confirming your sale on Poshmark. Within that email, you will also receive a PDF file of the prepaid shipping label. This label already has the buyer’s shipping address and your address filled in.

Package your item in an approved box. All Poshmark shipping labels are USPS Priority Mail labels. Therefore, you can use any of the free USPS Priority Mail boxes/envelopes or a plain brown box, polybag, or bubble envelope. You can also use any of the USPS flat rate boxes or envelopes. Be sure NOT to use Express Mail boxes… this is a violation.

Print your shipping label. Open up the PDF from your email and print the shipping label. You can use a regular inkjet printer or a DYMO shipping label printer (highly recommended). A label printer will make shipping much easier and quicker so that you can get your packages out the door and to your customers faster.

Drop off your package at your local post office. Since your package is prepaid, you don’t even need to wait in line. You can either drop your package in a USPS drop box or most offices allow you to put them on a counter off to the side.

Can I Offer Free Shipping on Poshmark?

Unfortunately, there is not a way to post free shipping right on the listing. However, there are a few different things you can do if you want your buyers to have an option for free shipping.

Poshmark allows you to offer discounted or free shipping on Private Discounts. You can discount your shipping up to $1.50 off or give them a completely free option. The downside to this is you can only make this on the original offer. The discount will not apply to any counteroffers, so you should encourage your buyers to accept your first offer. The shipping cost gets passed along to the seller and is taken from their earnings.

Another option to give your buyers “free shipping” is to ask them to contact you for a free shipping discount. If someone request it and verifies that they will buy the item. Tell that you will reduce the item cost by the $6.79 that the shipping costs. They will still have to pay the $6.79 to Poshmark, but the item cost will be lower so it’s the same as if they got free shipping.

Poshmark Shipping for Over Five Pounds

If your package weight over five pounds, you’ll need to request a new shipping label for a heavier weight. You do this by going to your Poshmark account and clicking on “My Sales”. Find the order that you need a heavier shipping label for and click on “Need New Shipping Label“. Then select “Need Heavier Weight Label“.

If your package is over 10 pounds, you need to purchase the 10 pound label from Poshmark and then take the package into the post office and pay the difference. This will probably be quite expensive, so keep that in mind when you have an over-sized package. Be sure to pay for the correct weight at the counter. If you don’t your buyer will receive the package with postage due that that will lead to a bad experience for them.

How Many Days Do I Have To Ship on Poshmark?

Poshmark gives you 7-days to ship your item to the buyer. However, most sellers ship within 3-days. The faster you ship your items to buyers the better. This provides your customers with a better experience and will make them want to come back and shop from your closet again.

Poshmark transactions can take place quite quickly if you can get your items out of the door fast. Priority mail ensures that items are received in 1-3 days. The buyer then gets 3-days to dispute anything before the funds for the sale are released to you, the seller,

What Boxes Can I Use for Poshmark?

You can use any USPS Priority Mail shipping box or envelope that the Post Office provides for free. They can be regular Priority boxes or flat rate boxes or envelopes.

We like to use the Padded Flat Rate envelopes or the Tyvec/milipac envelopes. These are easy to store, take up little space, and don’t require a bunch of tape to seal.

Make sure that you DO NOT used Express boxes or envelopes. These are not inculded as part of the shipping label provided by Poshmark and therefore are not allowed.
